Sometimes a Key Is More Than Just a Key

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes at Bolton Bowls Academy.
When I started the Academy, I wanted to give young people in Bolton something different — a choice, an opportunity and the chance to discover a sport that is often underestimated.
Not every young person enjoys traditional sports, and that’s exactly why I believe bowls is so important. Whether it’s Crown Green, Flat Green or Short Mat, bowls is inclusive, social, competitive and accessible to people of all ages and abilities. 🎳💚
Since we were asked to leave Central Park, I haven’t simply accepted that this was the end of the road. I’ve attended town and city meetings, written countless emails and letters, spoken to people, asked questions and kept pushing to find a way forward for the Academy and the young people we support.
Then, on Friday, I received a surprise phone call from Green Spaces in Bolton.
And today, I received something that might look very small to some people…
A KEY TO A BOWLING GREEN. 🔑🎳
For me, this key represents so much more than access to a green.
It represents opportunity. It represents trust. And it represents another door opening for Bolton Bowls Academy.
Most importantly, it gives us the possibility of introducing even more young people to a sport they may never have considered before. There’s still work to do, but after all the emails, meetings, conversations and persistence, this feels like a pretty special little key.
Sometimes, a key really is more than just a key. ❤️🔑
